100,000 cases have now been filed with the Washington Supreme Court

Wow, it’s a momentous milestone! On July 19, 2021, the 100,000th case was filed with the court since it was established after statehood in 1889. That case involves a motion for discretionary review, which is interlocutory in nature.

The court’s press release notes that the first case filed with the court in early 1890 involved a breach of contract to sell hops. It’s a fitting beginning given that Washington is basically the hops capital of the world, with 71% of the hops acreage in the country in 2021.
